Is Will Ferrell losing his touch?

Jackie Moon, Will Ferrell’s lastest “sports spoof” film about a 1970s player/manager/owner of the worse franchise team in the ABA league, slam dinked its way to #1 at the box office this weekend will a measy $15.2 million.

Will’s last few movies: Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Blades of Glory opened with much better weekend numbers ($47 million for Talledega and $33 million for Blades - as per Media By Numbers, LLC).  But is America tired of Will Ferrell doing basically the same routine from movie to movie?

I loved Anchroman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. But after that film, he started to slip. There was that cameo in “Wedding Crashers”, which was excellent. Only Will Ferrell could have played a 40-yeard old “player” still living in his mother’s house!

He also did a  ”serious actor” turn in “Stranger the Ficition”, in which he really showed some acting chops beyond simply SNL skit humor.  The film was a critical success but barely a blip on the box office radar.

I’m starting to get tired of his reguritated humor. It was funny as hell in the early 00’s (remember Old School?) but is now starting to get played out, as is his “LandLord” video on his funnyordie site.
