In Maury we trust…
So, there’s this Maury Povich video making the rounds. Its a paternity test set to the tune of an E.P.T. pregnancy test commercial but with the traditional, “bitch, I told that I ain’t the baby daddy” feel to it.
Its a funny clip, but there’s so much subtext in there I think most don’t get past the “comical” approach to a couple, who clearly aren’t working out, possibly dealing with a baby.
The Maury Povich show, though fun to watch, is really “low class entertainment” wrapping in the shell of a network television morning shows.
I use to watch Jerry, we all did! But the shock value for shows like that peaked in the late 90’s - I think Jerry was at the top when he did a cameo in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and has since gone down, though the shows are still airing, still selling DVDs and are in syndication.
It’s good to have a sense of humor and to say, “Thank God that’s not me”, when watching the people who decide to go on those shows, but its being drawn out to the point of being absurd - they’re (the networks) are doing this because it makes money (lots of it) for them and the shows are cheap to produce (even if some are fixed with actors). We continue to watch, they continue to produce and we get ground-breaking videos like The Maury Povich Paternity Test - which I have to admit was well produced and executed! Kudos to the filmmakers ![]()
